Bhopal: A dispute that began between two groups in Tarana, Ujjain, on Thursday evening escalated into violence on Friday. ​​Rioters pelted houses with stones and set a bus on fire. Given the seriousness of the situation, the administration has transformed the town into a fortified zone. The incident began on Thursday evening when a dispute broke out between some young men in Tarana.

What led to the violence in Ujjain?

During the altercation, a young man named Sohel Thakur was fatally attacked. The atmosphere became tense on Friday in protest against the attack on Sohel. Some unidentified individuals entered the neighborhoods and pelted houses with stones, shattering windowpanes. The miscreants then became more aggressive and set a bus on fire, causing panic throughout the area.

Ujjain SP Pradeep Sharma personally took charge of the situation and ordered strict action against the culprits. Based on Sohel Thakur's complaint, the police have registered a case of attempted murder against six people, and five of the accused have been arrested. The search for the sixth accused is underway. Sohel Thakur is currently under the care of doctors in the hospital, and his condition is now reported to be out of danger.

The administration has adopted a 'zero tolerance' policy to restore peace in Tarana. More than 300 police personnel have been deployed in the town. Drone cameras and CCTV footage are being used to identify the suspects.
